Meth Houses: This is what a house looks like when it’s used as a meth lab - The Feed
“We now have evidence showing that children living in a contaminated home can have methamphetamine in their system that's equivalent to an adult ice user.”
Smoking ice ruins lives. Cooking it ruins houses.
There are Meth residue test kits for sale online but you should be aware that they could fail or not be completely accurate. If there are signs that a home has been used as a meth lab then you may want to do a search for a specialized professional in your area that performs testing.
Also, you may want to ask the neighbors in the area if they could fill you in on any details about the former occupants. Homes that have been rented out may have had meth labs that the owner was not even aware of. If the neighbors report that the former occupants displayed erratic behavior this is a sign you should pay attention to.
Keep in mind that a normal home inspection does not cover invisible chemicals that could be present in a home. A home inspection only covers visible home defects. A home inspector would likely not mention anything about past drug use in the home unless it was very apparent and they were familiar with what signs to look for in the first place such as overpowering cat urine smell. Many foreclosed homes are usually damaged by angry owners that lost their home. So signs of erratic angry behavour are common place. Inspectors see this kind of damage all the time.
Living a former meth lab could cause cancer or auto immune disease. Reports of ill effects include loss of appetite, spaciness, inability to concentrate, itchy skin, dry eyes, irritability, paranoia, colds, breathing difficulty, sinus problems, headaches, nervousness, anxiety, acne and confusion. Pets show signs of sickness and may even die.
