Simply attach it to an outdoor faucet and turn on the faucet. If your reading is between 50-60 psi, then you have an ideal pressure for your home. If your pressure reads over 80 psi then you should probably adjust your water pressure valve regulator which is normally located in the crawlspace or basement. High pressure will be hard on your pipes and appliances. If you don't have a water pressure regulator valve then you definitely need to get one. Shop for one at Amazon. You may be able to turn down the water a little at water meter, but this may not save your pipes from water spikes in the future. Water pressure valve regulators typically last between 5-10 years old. So if you have one installed older than than and you have high presssures it is likely the valve is no longer functioning.
How to adjust & measure home water pressure
Video description:Watch the entire process and know your local codes and pressure recommendations before adjusting your water pressure. I would just adjust it to the lowest psi you are comfortable with. In case you don't know PSI stands for Pounds Per Square Inch. The style of water regulators will vary. This one is a 3/4" WATTS brand model DU N45B M1 and the output psi range is between 25-75. If you do not know what you are doing do not attempt to adjust your water pressure. Adjusting it too high can cause damage to appliances and leaks in pipes, especially old weak ones.
